HOW IT ALL BEGINS
My love of Aquatics was inspired by my father. He started swimming about the same time he learned to walk. The local lifeguards quickly noticed him and by the time he was 12 years old he was a junior lifeguard. By age 18, my father was a lifeguard and soon after received a swimming scholarship to South Carolina State University. He started coaching swimming after college and led numerous championship teams until his retirement.
When I was two years old my father started bringing me to his team practices. Secured in a ring buoy, I soon began to playfully dunk myself under the water during their practices. My Father and his Swim Team (SCSC AquaDogs) quickly recognized my early love of Aquatics. They worked with me after their practices and as soon as I could swim from the middle of the pool to the wall, my father placed me in the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program that he led with two other instructors. Inspired by my early instruction, I began swimming competitively at the age of six. I began volunteer teaching around the age of eleven, and by 17 I was a water safety instructor. While my second love, football, earned me a scholarship to East Tennessee State University, Aquatics has always had my heart. After college, I returned to teaching swimming and have been ever since.
