Testimonials

I was a child when I almost drowned, resulting in the fear of water. I did not want anything to do with the water for years. After adulthood and having a son, I decided to take lessons. However, it seemed easier that I thought. I came to terms that I could not overcome this fear. I was weight training at Sport and Health and had given up on swim lessons. I went to see the General Manager, Rommel Bradley about something and noticed the swim plaque on his wall. Immediately, I was impressed and inquired. “You’re a swimmer, and do you teach?” And next thing you know we were having a conversation about swimming. The conversation with Rommel was heartwarming, genuinely kind, and dignified. Over a three-week period, Rommel listened to my story to understand me and respected my reasons for fear. While I faced those fears, Rommel used openness and patience to prepare me for my big decision — “the water”. Since swim lessons 10 years ago with Rommel, I continue to excel in technique utilizing recovery-based strategies he provided to maintain a relaxed and fearless mindset. “It’s more about the fear of water I continue to embrace than swimming 25 yards without stopping”. With grace and patience, Rommel provided me the guidance I needed to challenge that fear. Rommel’s strength and sincerity to care about my progress, reinforced the tools to help me relax and feel better around water. Today, I can say I am grateful for what Rommel has taught me, about swimming, as I have gained insight to life’s unplanned expectancies.

I first met Rommel at Star Aquatics in 2015 when my two sons were learning to swim where he was the deck supervisor. Thanks to the encouragement from him and his colleagues, my sons quickly grasped how to swim, a valuable life skill. While my kids were going through the various color-coded stages of swimming, I found Rommel to be very knowledgeable, engaging, and encouraging in many ways. He was the one who would evaluate kids, promote them to the next stage and inform parents of the areas they need to work on, and update them on how they are progressing. Rommel has a firm handle on exactly how to correct his students and takes the time in increments to ensure that they are swimming correctly and not just quickly. His personality and approach made a huge difference in how things are run, how it is organized, how it is taught, and how it is done right. He informed parents in a very professional and friendly manner of how children are performing and maintained a rapport that was rare from previous instructors. He is extremely consistent, reasonable, and worked hard to help kids, isolate issues in kids swimming styles that are not right, help kids and swim teachers in making the sessions meaningful and helpful. After getting to know him and how he teaches, I decided to have private swim sessions with him in my swimming pool over the last 4 years. I have learned the basics of swimming, kicks, hand movements, breath control, and others needed for swimming. With his encouragement, careful approach, and analysis of my technique, he turned someone like me who has feared water into someone who is excited to swim. I am very impressed with Rommel, his knowledge, his ways of teaching and helping kids […]
